MISSISSIPPI RIVER STYX follows Kelly Phillips, a middle-aged New Jersey man allegedly suffering from terminal cancer who decides to live out his dream of floating down the Mississippi River the remainder of his days. As he navigates the 2,000-mile journey down the Mississippi in a rickety old houseboat, along with his beloved pug, Sapphire, Kelly pinballs through America’s heartland, chasing adventure and inspiring people with his end-of-life bravado. He lives on the charity of the communities he visits until his inspirational persona cracks and darker motivations for his journey emerge. With a mix of tragedy and humor native to the Southern Gothic tradition, MISSISSIPPI RIVER STYX meditates on addiction, loss, and the nature of truth.
