A look inside the mind of enigmatic performer, Andy Kaufman.
Everyone wanted to know who the “real” Andy was, and this is a rare opportunity to have Andy speak for himself by using a treasure trove of audio tapes that he recorded while he was alive. They function as a personal diary of his life during the height of his fame as we hear secret recordings of conversations, inner monologues, performance ideas, and musings on his magnum opus book he was writing, The Huey Williams Story. The book is a semi autobiographical surrealist piece of fiction that was Andy’s most precious project. Tragically, he never got to finish the book before his death, but scenes from it are brought to life with the magic of marionette puppets to further embed you in the childlike wonder that was Andy’s world.
Featuring his family and close friends from his inner circle, the film is a compilation of new insights from the people who knew the real person behind the caricature that defined his public life. The movie holds Andy up as a wonderful reminder that despite the boxes that society tries to put us all in, no one is a monolith, and we all contain different sides of ourselves.
